Some Links I Love These Days

Maira Kalman, who wrote "The Elements of Style Illustrated," which I'll dispense on every gift-giving occasion for the rest of 2009, has a blog called "And the Pursuit of Happiness" on the New York Times website. Go there now, I tell you.

Another site I love, love, love is Tina Roth Eisenberg's design blog Swiss Miss. With multiple postings each day, she's always got something I want to see. Her sensibility is modern, elegant, witty and down to earth.

I'm also reading Odi et Amo, a blog by my friend Quotidian Grace's daughter, who's obviously the product of superb parenting on the part of QC and El Jefe.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do. Let me know if you like them!

An Insult To Make a Parent Proud

A couple of weeks ago, my 9 year old son became enraged, full of the kind of righteous indignation at the unfairness of the world that only children can summon. Shaking and red-faced, he sputtered, "You are soooo mean. It's like you're ...." He stammered until he hit upon the worst thing he could think of. "It's like you're Dick Cheney," he wailed, "and I'm the Bill of Rights."

It was a powerful insult, but I still wouldn't let him jump from bed to bed in our hotel room.

This is lovely! Enjoy a few mesmerizing minutes.

Ruby on the Rocks

Yes, sports fans, Ruby went rock-climbing with the family. Now, you must understand that my family thinks I am the biggest scaredy-cat around, and they're right, but they're right for the wrong reason. I'm not afraid for myself, but when I see their beloved little bodies on a precipice, I panic -- and sometimes I cry, because this is what I'm watching!!!

The fingers on the edge of the cliff (shriek) belong to eight-year-old Nature Boy, and the pictures below are of Witter and Nashy.

Let the Vacation Begin...

Our family is in Bar Harbor together for vacation... but first I got to spend two nights with my friend Songbird and her family. After many delays, we were joined by Mary Beth.
Here we are at Songbird's.

We laughed and talked and I was very happy to see them both.

Meanwhile, Garden Girl, Nana, Shiny and Nature Boy hiked in Acadia National Park, but not without incident.

Yep, that's right. They got the requisite visit to the ER out of the way on the first day.
More pics tomorrow . . .
